When I was young I started sailing small boats and was very much attracted to the sea. I always felt I wanted to help companies and government reduce their impacts on the environment, this was rare 25 years ago, environmental protection wasn’t discussed as much as it is now. I started my journey as a biologist and specialised in marine biology. This led me to start scuba diving and discovering more wonders underneath the waves. Now I’m a mummy of two young children (2 and 4 years old), I spend most of my days playing, reading books and heading out into nature with them, sharing my passion.

As a marine scientist I looked into the effects of offshore wind farms on animals living in the seabed. Once my PhD was finished I moved from Belgium to England and started working for the Ministry of Defences. I have had a few jobs within the MoD. One looked at the effects of Naval activities at sea and now I’m an environmental manager which means I make sure harm to the environment is minimised from ships and all equipment that goes with it by making sure they are following the law.

My Typical Day:
I get woken by my two little kids in the morning. I bring them to school and nursery and try to walk/scoot with them. I then go back home and have breakfast whilst reading emails. I finish at 4.30 to pick up the kids and make dinner

I have meetings with engineers who know a lot about the ships and equipment to get information from them, I look into the latest laws and run workshops to assess the environmental impacts of a ship for example and determine what actions need to be taken to reduce the impact to the environment.
