I move to Sheffield in 2019, at the beggining I didn’t like it because of the rain. But now I love Sheffield, even if the weather is not great. My favourite season is the spring. I really like going hiking during spring as the nature start awaking and the flowers/ trees are beautiful. In 2018, I lived in Iceland for 6 months, it was one of my best experience. I love reading books, especially SF novel.

The concrete that I work on is saving a lot of CO2 emissions. By then it can help reduce the climate change. But we don’t know if it will last as long as the traditional concrete. So I try to know the lifetime of this concrete, to avoid the buildings and bridges to collapse while there are used.

My Typical Day:
I wake up at 7:30, take a shower and drink a lot of tea while having a croissant. I arrive at work around 9am, and spend the morning working at my office. I usually have lunch with my colleagues. Then I do my experiments in the afternoon. I try to do some sport afterwork (when I am motivated enough). I spend my evenings with my friends.

My day can be very different from one another. For example, the morning I can easier try to understand my experiments results, write (an article, a report), prepare a presentation and have some meetings. And the afternoon, my experiments vary a lot, sometimes I am doing some concrete, sometimes I am testing them on various machine and some other time I am observing it at the microscope. I really like not doing the same thing everyday, it keep me occupy.

Qualifications:
French equivalent of a BCs in chemistry and physics
French equivalent of a Master in Materials Engineering
-
Work History:
I worked every summer between 2014 to 2019 in a kindergarten in France.
I did a 6 months internship in industrial research centre on concrete in Lyon (France) in 2018.
I did a 6 months internship in governmental research centre on microelectronics in Grenoble (France) in 2019.
-
Current Job:
I am doing now a PhD in materials science and engineering at the University of Sheffield. This PhD is funded by the program Marie Curie of the European Union. So I am collaborating with several companies and University across Europe. This funding is called DuRSAAM and aim at developing the Alkali Activated Materials (AAM) technologies to reduce the CO2 emissions in the construction area. Actually, the traditional cement is responsible for 8% of the man made CO2 emissions. So, AAM is an alternative binder which can reduce this emission up to 80% while reusing industrial waste. My PhD topic is focus on the durability of this AAM.
